The drug take back program in Lake County was initiated by the Save-A-Star Drug Awareness Foundation, a501c3 public charity based in Lake County, that provides free disposal boxes to police departments across the country. Once the prescription drug disposal program was initiated by Save-A-Star, the following entities have networked together: SWALCO (the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County), Municipal Law Enforcement, the Lake County Sheriff’s department, the Lake County States Attorney, the Lake County Health Department, the Lake County Opioid Initiative, and the Lake County Underage Drinking and Drug Prevention Task Force. Walgreens Corporation and CVS Pharmacy have also begun to place drug collection boxes in some stores. And, the Jordan Michael Filler Foundation has also started to supply drug collection boxes. The majority of the Drug Disposal boxes were donated to local police departments by the Save-A-Star Drug Awareness Foundation.
